OSRS Combat Calculator
Enter your skill levels to find your exact combat level and see how many levels you need to rank up.
In Old School RuneScape (OSRS), your combat level OSRS rank is the ultimate indicator of your strength. It determines which monsters are aggressive toward you, the Slayer Masters you are eligible to use, and most importantly, which players you are allowed to attack in PvP and the Wilderness.
However, the game doesn’t explicitly tell you how close you are to leveling up. A player sitting at level 85 combat could actually be level 85.99, meaning just one more tiny stat increase would push them into the level 86 bracket.
Our free OSRS combat calculator uses the exact game engine algorithm to calculate your raw combat level. Simply input your current skills, and the tool will instantly act as an exact OSRS combat level calculator, revealing your true combat level, your dominant combat class, and exactly how many skill levels you need to grind to reach your next rank!
How is Combat Level Calculated in OSRS?
In OSRS, every player starts at Combat Level 3 and can achieve a maximum of Combat Level 126. This final number is not an average of your stats; it is calculated using a complex mathematical formula that divides your skills into two specific categories:
1. Base Stats (Always Counted) Your Defence, Hitpoints, and Prayer levels are considered your “Base” stats. These levels will always contribute to your overall combat level, regardless of what weapon you are holding. (Note: Because of how the math works, Prayer only contributes to your combat level on every even number. Getting level 2 Prayer matters, but getting level 3 Prayer will not change the results in an OSRS combat calc.)
2. Class Stats (Only the Highest is Counted) Your Melee (Attack + Strength), Ranged, and Magic levels are your class stats. The game calculates the combat impact of all three categories, but it only adds the highest one to your Base stats.
For example, if you have 99 Magic but only 10 Attack, leveling your Attack to 11 will not increase your combat level because your Magic stat is already so high that it dominates the equation.
Why Use a Combat Calc for OSRS?
Because of how specific the Old School RuneScape math works, players rely on an OSRS cb calc to perfectly optimize their accounts, especially for Player vs Player (PvP) combat.
In PvP, the goal is to deal the maximum amount of damage possible while keeping your overall combat level bracket as low as possible. Players create highly specialized accounts (known as “Pures,” “Zerkers,” or “Mains”) where they intentionally stop leveling Defence and Prayer so they can dump all of their stats entirely into Strength and Magic.
By using the “Levels Needed For Next Combat Level” section of our OSRS combat lvl calc above, you can plan your account build flawlessly. It serves as an ultimate combat level calculator OSRS planner, telling you exactly how many levels you can safely gain in a specific skill before the game forces your overall combat level to rank up and puts you at a disadvantage.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is the maximum Combat Level in OSRS?
The maximum combat level in Old School RuneScape is 126. To reach level 126, a player must achieve level 99 in Attack, Strength, Defence, Hitpoints, Prayer, and either Magic or Ranged.
Does Summoning affect my rank on a Runescape combat level calculator?
No. While the Summoning skill affected combat levels in the original RuneScape 2 era (raising the max combat level to 138), the Summoning skill does not exist in Old School RuneScape.
What does “Melee Based” or “Ranged Based” mean?
Because the game only adds your highest damage category to your base stats, your account is considered “based” around that specific stat. If your Magic level is mathematically contributing more to your total combat level than your Attack and Strength combined, any accurate combat calc OSRS tool will tell you that you are “Magic Based.”
